A special Royal Charity Gala Concert took place at the Lyccumb Theater on June 8th, 1988 in the presence of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh which was described as a star-studded musical performance. The concert was designed to raise funds for the Royal National Institute of the Blind and the Combined Theaterical Charitiesn and honored theater producer Cameron Mackintosh for his 30 creative years in show-biz. Featuring a glittering array of internationally acclaimed artists including Julie Andrew, Jonathan Pryce, Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, Colm Wilkinson, Judi Dench, Andrew Lioyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim....over 200 performances. The incomparable concert includes spectaculary staged scences from some of the best-loved musicals of the twentieth century such as "Les Miserables", "Cats", "Miss Saigon", "Oliver!", "My Fair Lady", "Oklahoma", "The Phantom of the Opera" and many otjers.
